How To Cook Corned Beef Cabbage and Potatoes
Not sure how to cook corned beef? The corned beef, cabbage and potatoes that I make is so easy, anyone can do it! It's so easy that I can't believe that I'm writing about it. Maybe that's silly but if I can do it, so can you! The corned beef brisket turns out nice and juicy, the cabbage and potatoes are soft and taste great with butter on them.
I love the smell that fills the house as this dinner is cooking. It's my favorite meal of the whole year. It's been a tradition in my family for years and I'm carrying it on. My kids aren't too crazy about the cabbage but they love the corned beef!
Simple Corned Beef - They Come In Packages
Simple yet delicious meal
I said this was really simple and I meant it! You can go to the store and buy a packaged corned beef brisket in the meat department. It will come with a seasoning packet and they are usually on sale right before St. Patrick's Day

Baking the corned beef
Put the corned beef brisket into the pan fat side up, cover it with water, pour the seasoning packet on top and put it in the oven at 350 degrees F. I used a ceramic 13" x 9" baking dish. The corned beef that I had was almost 4 pounds and I cooked it for about 3 hours.

Next Is the Cabbage and Potatoes
Great Taste
I love the way that cooking the cabbage and potatoes together tastes. They get nice and soft. After the corned beef has been cooking for about an hour and half, you can start cooking the cabbage and potatoes. I cut up the cabbage first and put it in a pan of boiling water. Next I cut the potatoes into quarters and throw them in the pot of water with the cabbage. I add a dash of salt and let them boil for a little over an hour.

Cuts of Corned Beef Brisket
Flat Cut
This is the leaner of the two cuts of beef brisket and can be a bit dry. Cut across the grain for easier serving.
Point Cut
This cut of meat is full of fat but also full of flavor. The point cut of meat will shrink considerably while cooking.
Corned Beef Reubens
I love corned beef reubens almost as much as I love a good corned beef, cabbage, and potato dinner! If I go to a new restaurant, I will always order the reuben if it's on the menu because it's so hard to mess one of these up. If the restaurant makes a good one, I'll most certainly come back and try some of their other food.
Ingredients
- Loaf of Rye Bread
- Slices of Corned Beef
- Can of Sauerkraut
- Thousand Island Dressing
- Slices of Mozzarella Cheese
- Butter
Instructions
- Butter 2 slices of rye bread. Heat up your frying pan a little bit and then add the first slice of bread. Put in a slice or two of the mozzarella cheese on the bread in the pan. Cover the cheese with corned beef. Add a tablespoon of sauerkraut on top of the corned beef. Put the second slice of bread on top. Once the bottom bread is browned a little, flip it over and heat the other side until browned. When it's done cooking, put it on a plate and open up the side with the sauerkraut. Slather on some Thousand Island Dressing. Close the sandwich up and enjoy!

There's so many different pots and pans for cooking. Stockpots are great for boiling cabbage and potatoes. Baking dishes are great for cooking meat, desserts, and other things like lasagna. Frying pans are useful so cooking so many other things like ground beef, scrambled eggs, and corned beef reubens.
