My Favorite Toys

Updated on August 23, 2017
This Fisher Price cash register is one of my absolute favorite toys. I used it for so many things. I used it as a bank, as a cash register at my mom's rummage sale, and pretended like I was at a real store doing grown up shopping.

Come Along For a Walk Down the Fisher Price Memory Lane

Through the years, I've always admired Fisher Price and their innovative toy designs. They've always been cutting edge in their toy creation. Fisher Price learning toys teach valuable life lessons. They know that kids learn naturally right from babyhood and that's the way their toys are created starting with educational baby toys.

Fisher Price didn't stop with dolls and cars - they reached for the moon. Kids could be astronauts, doctors, and scientists and even be a knight in shining armor. They could race cars and make little people live full lives. Kids could use their own brains with no adult imposed limits!

I had my very own record player and I could listen to Humpty Dumpty all day long. I didn't need my mom to put it on for me. I could do it myself! What a sense of accomplishment for me as a child.

Pop Up Pal Chime Phone #150

With this chime phone, you can call your Grandma anytime! The phone itself is made of a wood base with a plastic phone and hand receiver. When you push the numbers, the phone makes chime noises and when you dial "0", a Little People operator pops out of the phone. Very cute!

I have a picture of myself playing with this phone when I was a baby. As soon as I find it, I'm going to add it to this page! I remember calling mommy and grandma when I was little. I felt so grown up!

This phone was produced from 1968 until 1978.

Wooden Circus Train

Made in 1962 and 1963, Fischer Price made a wooden circus set complete with moving legs on the animals and ringmaster. It's a 30 piece set that includes animals such as an elephant, seal, giraffe, bear, monkey, camel, and more.

Little People started out as little wooden figures and eventually were made of plastic. They never had arms but that's what imagination is for.

Original Little People

My favorite childhood toys were the Fischer Price Little People sets. My favorite was the A-Frame house but I spent many hours playing with all of them.

The Fisher Price Little People also had a schoolhouse, a school bus, a hospital, a village, a parking garage, houses, an airport and airplane, farm, parking garage and many others.

Another one they had was an entire Sesame Street Burrough, complete with Ernie, Bert, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch. He was the best because you could make him come in and out of his garbage can.

Fisher Price A-Frame House #990 - Let's go camping!

The A-Frame House was my favorite. I could make my Little People go camping for weeks. They have all the necessary picnic gear along with playground equipment and cars.

This awesome A-Frame house was in production from 1974 until 1976.

Watch out! I might outbid you on one of these!

Vintage School Bus

The Little People could take their very own school bus to their school where they learned lots of new things and played on lots of fun playground equipment, like a swing set and teeter totter.

Sesame Street

During the 1970s, Fisher Price teamed up with Sesame Street. I had the burrough with all the secret places where the people could hide and play. Oscar the Grouch was awesome in his garbage can that opened up. I loved sending them down the slide and it was neat the way that they walked across the roofs.

Did you have the Sesame Street Burrough?

Doctor Set

My next favorite Fisher Price toy that I had as a child was a doctor set. I loved that set! It came with a stethoscope, a shot, a knee knocker thing, a blood pressure cuff, an ear checker, a medicine bottle and a thermometer. The best part of it was that the stethoscope actually worked!! I spent many hours making my sick stuffed animals all better. (My picture is not a picture of the original set. I haven't been able to acquire one of those yet but hope to some day add it to my collection!)

Fisher Price Doctor Set #936 - Working Stethoscope!

I hope to some day have one of these in my collection. My pets and stuffed animals were all very healthy because I took great care of them with my Fisherprice doctor set. My very favorite part of the set is that the stethoscope actually works!! I loved listening to my heart beating. These sets that came in the hard case were in production from 1977 until 1986.

Micro Explorer Set

This set was another of the professional series. If you didn't want to be a doctor, maybe a scientist? This set was in a case just like the doctor set but included items like a microscope, tweezers, and slides of various different things you could look at under the full functioning microscope. They were as much about learning as they were about having fun!

Circus Train Set 991

One of my all-time favorite Fisher-Price toys was the circus train. It came with a train engineer and an engine car with a horn that tooted when you pushed on it, circus animal cars that included a lion, elephant, bear, giraffe and monkey, along with the ringmaster and a caboose with a clown. There's a little plastic string in front to pull the train around and when it moves it makes a cickity clack train track noise. Fisher Price produced these from 1973 until 1986.

The Old Western Town

Come and stay at the Fischer Price Hotel. It's part of the Old Western Town. The set comes with the town which includes a jail, a hotel and a bank. The stagecoach has 2 saddled horses and there's another horse for the sheriff to ride. There's a cute little donkey to help carry your load. Lastly is my favorite part of the set - a raging bull! You push the little guy down on the bull and then you push the bull's tail down and he pops up, hopefully bucking the rider off!

Fisher Price Puzzles

Puzzles

Since Fisher Price is all about learning, of course they have puzzles in their line up. The wooden puzzles of the early years were great! Later, they made cardboard tray and plastic puzzles. Some of the puzzles have even been made into games for more learning fun. In their normal cutting edge style, they even have an original Nintendo system puzzle game.

My son took this little dinosaur everywhere we went! He loved the noises that it made! It didn't need batteries either so we never had to worry about that.

Dino-Roars!!

We have this guy around the house. When you squeeze him, he makes a dinosaur-ish type noise. These fellas came in all different shapes and sizes and had eyes that would melt your heart! This is Bruce the Brontosaurus. He was in production from 1992 until 1994.

Fischer Price race cars zoom around their track at top speeds! They are easily stored inside the race track which fits nicely under a bed. They are remote controlled and durable!

Racecars

Fisher Price even ventured into the racing scene. This car is from a remote control run set. There was a two car racetrack that was practical as well as fun! The track would collapse into a carrying case for easy storage. It was a big sturdy track too. They thought of everything!

I have a hard time deciding what's cuter - the teddy bear or the bunny rabbit. They are both adorable! They are calming colors and they make calming chime songs.

Peaceful Planet Soothing Sounds Stuffed Animals

Fisher Price has always been about kids and babies. They have often thought of and encouraged good sleeping habits with kids. Many of their items have soothing in mind and this was one line that I really liked. It was the Peaceful Planet line.

This teddy bear plays soothing sounds such as chirping crickets and birds and is activated by motion. That's right, if the baby moves, the teddy bear plays more soothing evening noises to get the baby back to sleep. The little light on the front of him glows a warm yellowish-orange color and you'll actually see a moon and star scene on the wall. There were a few other animals such as a mouse and a bunny along with a few other toys.

Most Rescue Heroes came with a special animal that was unique to them. Some of the animals included a horse, a dog, a seal and a gorilla. They also made a smaller line of Rescue Heroes but there weren't as many produced.

Rescue Heroes

Rescue Heroes are exactly what their name suggests.. Heroes!! They are big muscle guys and gals who are always there to save the day! They all came with a special item, sometimes an animal, that would help them on their duty. My favorite is the police horse Dale. They also carried backpacks that would have little moving scenes on them when attached to the Rescue Heroes. Great for imagination play!

Rescue Heroes came into production around 1998.

Fisher Price Music Boxes

Kids and Music

Fisher Price knows that kids and music go hand in hand so they created a whole line of music boxes. I personally can remember spending hours upon hours listening to my music boxes. One of my favorites was Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I loved my record player the most but also had the little handheld music box radios that I played over and over. They were designed to stimulate thinking.

Now Starring! - Check out Little People in their very own movies!

Eddie, Michael, and Sonya Lee would all love it if you checked out their latest movies, all out on DVD! Nowadays, the Little People characters come to life right in front of your eyes. They all have their own personalities and their own lives.

Today's Little People

Little People have taken on a chunkier appearance with arms and legs and more realistic looking faces. They have full costumes with hats included and are made of plastic. Even the animals have a much more realistic look. The characters all have names and most of them appear in movies.

Which do you think is better? - Little People have come a long way

The new Little People are adorable and creative but the original ones left a lot to your imagination. Sure your people didn't have arms or legs but they could still do anything their newer counterparts can do.

Are the modern Little People or the originals better?

Modern Little People Sets

Little People have a world all their own! They have everything they need - stores, schools, hospitals, farms, airports, modern homes and castles - there's a place for all of them!!

Imagination is the key to their existence!

Books are fun too!

Since Fisher Price is all about teaching kids about the world, books are a great addition to their learning! There's a whole series of Little People books so there's always something new for them to look at.

There's so many that it's hard for me to pick but what's one or two that you remember the most?
