Yummy Mint Brownie Recipe

Updated on August 29, 2017

The Family Reunion Mint Brownie Recipe

I love brownies and I love mint! Every year at my family reunion, someone would bring a big pan of brownies covered with heavenly mint frosting. The brownie part was rich and chocolatey and the frosty was so sweet, creamy and minty! These brownies are my all time favorite.

After many years, my mom found out who was bringing them and got the brownie recipe so that I could enjoy them at home. Nowadays I make them for special occasions or really any time someone asks but the original brownie recipe is long gone. These are the measurements I use now and they always turn out fabulous!

I hope you enjoy this mint brownie recipe as much as I do!

The Brownies

It's nice to start with a good foundation :)

The first step is to make the brownies. My personal favorite brownie mix is Ghirdelli's but this week at the store, Betty Crocker happened to be on sale so that's what I bought. I used the Triple Chunk ones. Whichever mix you use, it's best to either get the ones with chips in the mix or buy chocolate chips to put in it. You will appreciate the extra chocolately taste that you'll get from the added chips.

Make the brownies according to the package or if you prefer homemade brownies, your usual recipe will do just fine. Make sure that the brownies are completely cool before trying to add the frosting.

My Favorite Brownie Mix is Ghiradelli's - Yummy!

I noticed that some of the other brands of boxed brownies are starting to use little artificial flavor gel balls.. gross. Ghiradelli's is still the real deal. Hopefully that won't change any time soon!

The Extra Special Minty Frosting

Mmmmm...... a light delicate minty flavor

Ok, here's my recipe. Please remember that you might have to tweak it a little bit because I normally don't measure the ingredients, I add them until it's the consistency that I desire. I like it whipped up until it's a little fluffy.

6 cups of powdered sugar

3/4 stick of butter

2 tablespoons of Creme de Menthe

1 tablespoon of sugar

1/4 cup of milk

This makes enough frosting for a 13" x 9" pan of brownies.

Making Your Brownies Beautiful

The Sky is the Limit!

After spreading a thick layer of frosting over the cooled brownies, I usually sprinkle powdered sugar over the top with my handy dandy powdered sugar sifter. It looks pretty and makes them taste great.

There's many other things that you could do to make these brownies even more special - drizzle chocolate on them, add chocolate shavings, maybe even some green sugar would look pretty sprinkled over the top.

The Finished Product - Yummmmm...........

Soft and Gooey

Here's how my brownies turned out. Soft and gooey on the inside and extra minty and creamy on the outside! Mmmmm... They were delicious!!! It's not often that they don't turn out just right.

Sometimes the Cookware Makes a Difference

If your brownies aren't turning out just the way you like them, maybe it's time to try some different cookware. I love making brownies in my Pampered Chef stone cookware but there's plenty of other great ones to choose from!

No Time to Make Brownies?

Try the Next Best Thing!

If you have that minty chocolate craving but you don't have time to make brownies, try Talenti Mediterranean Mint Gelato. It's the next best thing! The mint gelato is super smooth and creamy and there's the perfect amount of chocolate in it. So good!! It's a little pricey but well worth it and often times it's on sale at my local grocery store for buy one get one free!

I almost forgot to mention, this gelato is gluten free! Bonus!

Try some of these delicious variations of chocolate and mint candies. Yummy!

Looking for bulk candy? How about some Junior Mints?

Ok, I have to ask!!

This is a generations old question - what's better? York Peppermint Patties have a nice thick layer of peppermint covered by chocolate and lasts a few bites and Junior Mints are the perfect pop it in your mouth size!

York Peppermint Patties or Junior Mints?

Mint Candy - Do you have a favorite?

Candy

Mint and chocolate are the perfect combination and candy makers discovered this a very long time ago. The chocolate is sweet and rich. The mint is cool and refreshing.

I used to wait for certain times of the year when the Mint M&M's would be available in my area. Now they are available year round. This time they are all different shades of green. Very pretty greens I might add!
