Creme de Menthe Frosting Deliciously Minty!

Updated on August 29, 2015

Homemade Creme de Menthe Frosting

If you want to know how to make homemade frosting, you've come to the right place! This is the frosting recipe that I like the best. It's a Creme de Menthe recipe that has a great minty taste! It's pretty sweet but that's the way I like it.

When I was a kid, we would go to the family reunion and someone always brought these delicious brownies that were covered with the best mint frosting ever. I finally got the recipe and this is it! You won't be disappointed in this frosting. It's easy to make. You can whip it up in less than a half hour.

You can put it on brownies to take to the family reunion or you can put it on chocolate cake or cupcakes. Great for St. Patrick's Day or maybe even Christmas with red sugar or sprinkles!

Gather the Ingredients

It doesn't take much

You don't need a lot of ingredients to make a great mint frosting. You need butter, powdered sugar, creme de menthe, and milk. I also throw in a pinch of regular sugar. That's it! All together, they make a great combination.

Add the Butter

A half stick of butter
A half stick of butter

Salted Butter

A half of stick of butter is all you need. Put it into the mixing bowl first. I always use the salted butter so that it has a little more taste to it. Then you don't need to add any salt to the recipe.

Having Good Mixing Bowls Makes Clean Up Easy!

Stainless Steel mixing bowls are good old fashioned quality. They are great to use and easy to clean! I also have a really great Tupperware bowl that I use to make this frosting. It's the mix 'n store bowl. It has a handle so it's easy to hold while the mixer is running.

Powdered Sugar

Powdered Sugar

Add the powdered sugar next. You are going to need 2 cups. I store my powdered sugar in a Tupperware container. It keeps it really fresh so it's always ready to use. It doesn't clump at all in the containers like it does in the bag sometimes.

Start With A Little

Put a little bit in with the butter

Slowly with the powdered sugar

I measure out the 2 cups of powdered sugar but I only pour in a little bit at first. I start by putting in maybe 3/4 of a cup. If you put too much in, it usually ends up all over the room. it's light so the air from the mixers throws it all over the place.

A Little Milk and Creme de Menthe

2 Tablespoons milk and creme de menthe
2 Tablespoons milk and creme de menthe

The next ingredients

Next is 2 tablespoons each of milk and Creme de Menthe. Pour them both into the bowl.

Keep adding the powdered sugar a little bit at a time

Here's all the ingredients in the bowl. I still haven't added all of the powdered sugar. I will add it gradually so that it doesn't come flying up in the air in a big puff. If you add it too fast, it will make a huge mess all over the place.

Mix It All Up!

Whip all the ingredients together adding the powdered sugar gradually. Keep whipping it until it's nice and creamy and smooth. I also add in a little bit of sugar and it gives the frosting a little bit of a crunch.

KitchenAid Mixer

I love my KitchenAid Mixer. It whips up the frosting and makes it super light and fluffy. I never realized what a difference a good mixer makes until I got my Kitchenaid. You can get them in all different colors to match your kitchen.

Minty Frosting!

Yummy!

Here's what it looks like when it's all whipped up! Smooth and creamy, light and fluffy.

The Finished Frosting

Brownies are delicious with the minty frosting.

I love mint frosting and I especially like my mint frosting on brownies! The frosting could be used on cupcakes and chocolate cake too. Yummy! A little chocolate drizzle over the top would add a nice special touch!
