Valentines Day Jar
Simple Yet Beautiful Handcrafted Gift - A Valentines Day Jar
A Valentines Day Jar can be the perfect handcrafted gift. It's easy to put together and beautiful to look at. Traditional chocolate with a handmade card completes the gift.
This is a gift you can give to just about anyone. You can give it to a spouse, a boyfriend or girlfriend, a parent, a teacher, a friend or a child. The colors are so bright and cheery that they bring love and warmth.
You can also use different colors for different holidays. Red and green for Christmas. Orange and black for Halloween. You get the idea.
Begin By Gathering Your Supplies
You should get all of your supplies ready before you begin. It will make the project easier to put together because you won't have to stop to find the things you need, they'll all be right there where you need them.
What you need
- Mason Jar
- Valentines Day Candy. I used the Valentines M&M's and Hershey's Kisses.
- 1/2" wide Heart Ribbon
- Valentines Day Fabric
- Red, white and pink construction paper
- Some type of string or ribbon
The Mason Jar
A simple yet beautiful jar
It's just a plain Mason jar right now but soon it will be transformed into a gorgeous gift! Make sure it's clean and clear. Don't forget, the bigger the jar is, the more candy you will need to fill it up.
You could probably use the wide mouth jars for this project but I like the look of the old fashioned mason jar. There's also a jar with a handle that would look neat too.
Valentines Day Candy
Make Sure to Buy Enough Candy
For this project, I bought 2 bags of Valentines Day M&M's and 1 bag of Hershey's Kisses. Then I separated all the different colors. Make sure that you buy enough so that you don't have to stop in the middle of your project to get more. They're so pretty laying there all together.
Start Filling Up the Jar
I Didn't Use the Red Kisses
Since there were more red M&M's than the any other color, I added those first and filled up the bottom of the jar. Then I added the pink Kisses, white M&M's, and light pink M&M's next. The last two that I added were the silver Kisses and then the dark pink M&M's. I didn't use the red Kisses.
Here's What It Looked Like Filled Up
Embellish It
By the time I finished adding all the candy, it was already beautiful but there's still more to add to the jar to make this the gift that they'll never forget!
Cut the Fabric
Add the Fabric
Cut the pretty fabric into a circle about 6" across. Make the edges look a little jagged to give it some character. Iron the fabric if it needs it! Iron it so that it doesn't have any creases, folds, or wrinkles. Put the flat lid on the jar and put the fabric over it. Then screw the ring on over the fabric.
Put the Ribbon On
Tie it up
Glue the ribbon around the edge of the lid. Next cut your construction paper into heart shapes and glue them together to make a little card. You could also buy a card but that would defeat the purpose of making a homemade gift! It's easy and only takes a few minutes so take the time and make the card to go with the jar!
Finish It Up - Add the Finishing Touches
Find a Cute Sayng
Put a cute saying onto the hearts. Punch a hole and attach it to the jar using some kind of string. I used pink straw string. My card says "Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you!" I thought it was appropriate since it was a jar full of candy!
This is a super simple, yet beautiful gift for the love of your life!
